Best Bully Sticks

I've known about Best Bully Sticks for a while now since they have honored us by posting some of our recipes on their blog. I think they have a great selection with prices to match. However, we have a local co-op so I have always purchased Kirby's bully sticks there. I naively thought, "What's the difference, a pizzle is a pizzle". Well, I'm here to admit I was wrong, very wrong.

First, let me explain what a pizzle is in case you don't know. It's the penis from a bull, hence a bully stick. I don't allow Kirby to chew rawhide which doesn't digest easily so these are the closest he gets while still remaining relatively safe. He probably loves these more than any chew ever created in the history of mankind! On average he gets one every couple of weeks. The one side effect is his breath, his stinking, nasty breath. There is no point brushing his teeth and tongue in between his chewing his beloved pizzle so I have to endure his horrid breath until bedtime when the pizzle is taken away and teeth are brushed.

Callie graciously sent Kirby a package containing several bully sticks which was wonderful since our foster, Kora, could have her very own. They both loved the 10" curly bully sticks, the 12" standard bully sticks, and the 12" braided bully sticks.

Back to where I had to admit I was wrong - all bully sticks are not made equal. These have a very low odor which meant neither Kirby nor Kora had stinky breath! Hallalueah! Another benefit which I consider so important is they are100% natural free-range cattle pizzles made in the USA.

Funny coincidence is when we were in Atlanta a few months back we purchased a package of frozen pizzles which I dehydrated. It was easy to do and they also had a low odor factor, but I just found it so gross that I had to wear gloves. I'll still make my own once in a while just cos it's cheaper even though  mine didn't come out as big as these are. Apparently raw liver I can handle, raw pizzles not so much!

As you can see, both dogs loved them which they devoured with such gusto. I dont let Kirby, or any foster, have access to chews while I am away so every evening after dinner they each stayed busy whittlin away allowing me to get some work done. I love them so much I decided to place an ongoing order and become an affiliate. Kirby and Kora give Best Bully Sticks 4 paws and a wag!

Pack - The Dog Lover's Social Network

So have you heard of Pack? I had no idea it even existed until I recently received an invitation from a fellow blogger.  So let me just say, ohmidog, I absolutely love it!  If you love sharing your dog (who doesn’t?) and connecting with other dog lovers you're gonna love Pack too.

So just what is Pack? Pack is the brand new social network made for people who love their dogs.  It’s still in the early stages so there’s no telling what awesomeness it will evolve into but we are pretty doggone excited.  It’s fun, it’s easy, it’s creative, and it’s a fantastic way to share your pup with other dog crazy people!

How easy is it? Easy as 1- create your human profile. If, like me, you hate your pictures, you can upload whatever you want in place of it or they give you a cute button with the initial for your first name. I borrowed Kirby's cartoon pic since I might as well advertise while having fun.

2 - add your dog. Here's the hardest part, choosing that one picture out of a gazillion that really captures your pup's personality. Hmm, I might be changing his every month or so. I'll probably also remove "the Dorkie" part of his name once he is categorized as a Dorkie breed.

3 -  start trotting around to check out the amazing dogs already in Pack.

A rare option I really like is you can add more humans to your dog because family members and close friends do share your dog. Makes perfect sense to me.  Now once your dog has his profile, he’s ready to receive some  from other members of Pack.  It’s like hitting the Like button on Facebook except it's a Love button.  The Kirbster already has love from 15 admirers which is another cool feature because I can click on the number to see who they are. Kirby and I have already loved every one of them right back along with several others we just couldn't resist.  Is your dog already on Pack?  Leave his or her URL in the comments so Kirby and I can love your dog too!  You can love Kirby at http://packlove.com/Kirby-the-dorkie

I understand they just recently added The Breed Packs which is another great idea.  I was delighted with the number of breeds listed, including many hybrids, but really disappointed when I realized there was no Dorkie breed.  So for now Sir Kirby Kingston Martin of Mississippi, a CKC registered f1b Dorkie, is hanging out with the Yorkshire Terrier Pack since he would have looked like a misfit in the Dachshund Pack.  I clicked the button to suggest they add Dorkies and have since received confirmation they are adding the Dorkie breed and creating The Dorkie Pack so all will be right with the world again soon.

If your dog’s breed isn’t listed yet just choose the closest and suggest your breed to Pack. If your furbaby’s heritage is a mystery, still not a problem because you can categorize him or her in the Super Rare Breed or Marvelous Mystery Mutt Breed. We’ve had so much fun checking out the different breeds and discovering breeds I never heard of like the Azawakh (Ranger)and Yo-chon (Eddie). I'm still waiting to see a Muggin show up and I don't get the Insane Chicken Dog.

By now you must be drooling to join but I have to tell you Pack is currently in private beta which means the only way to join is with an invitation.  As luck would have it, I fell in love with Pack so I quickly became a member of The Sidewalk Team which means I have the invitations you desire.

What is the Sidewalk Team?  Pack says “Behind every good dog is a good human. The Sidewalk Team is a collective of cool humans who walk the walk and talk the talk when it comes to loving their dogs and paying it forward.” Yes, my heart does beat Kirby and we do like to paw it forward when we can... and we can!

So do you want to join us on Pack?  Ask for an invite in a comment or, for more privacy, you can send me your email address by using our Barking at Us form.

Dog Tested, Dog Approved

Have you heard this logo? It's for Subaru, the cars made with dogs in mind. Even though I don't own a Subaru I have loved their commercials like this one called "Best Friend" about loyalty telling the story of a chocolate lab who grows from pup to senior with his family and their Subaru:

Grant Weber, Canine Sales Associate for Subaru of America, is reaching out to dog owners in a new way with fun apps on their Facebook Page. Clicking on the "Dog Tested" link in the upper right side will bring you to the apps.

The first app is the Subaru Dog Matchmaker which matches your dog with the right vehicle.  Apparently, Kirby belongs in "The BRZ which combines lightweight design with impressive agility to match the spry alpha dog in you". A little 2 door that gets up to 34 mpg.

The next app lets you put your dog in a Subaru which is fun especially when you like making creative pictures like I do.  Just pick the vehicle you like and upload your dog's picture.  Kirby loved test driving this one - A true stud muffin in a sporty little coupe! (Good thing he's been nuetered cos he can't afford puppy support)

The third app lets you prepare your dog's driver's license so your pup can drive legally. I know this ones has worked for others because I've seen their driver licenses. However, every time I upload Kirby's picture, it changes to Minnesota. Nothing against Minnesota but Kirby does live in Mississippi.

*Kirby left a message for Mr. Weber to fix this app cos he really wants a driver's license*

The final app lets you ask the experts where you can choose to chat live with Lars, Sasha, or Gypsy, three dogs ready to sniff out the answers you want to know.

Disclosure: This post is not sponsored by Subaru. I am not being compensated for helping spread the word about the Dog Tested, Dog Approved.™ campaign, but Kirby the Dorkie only shares news for things we support really like.
